Student Welfare, Child Protection & Safeguarding

Are you a parent or guardian planning on sending an under 18 student to Glasgow School of English? If so, we want to reassure you that he or she will be looked after.

Glasgow School of English is owned and operated by Global Connections (Scotland) Ltd and we know that we have an enhanced duty of care to all of our students that are under 18. All people who may be in contact with our under 18 students are required to follow the principles and guidance contained in our "Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy".

All staff, homestay providers and group leaders are subject to detailed codes of conduct, focusing on the principles of child protection and working with students aged under 18.

  • Our school has a dedicated under 18 welfare officer - our school manager, Sherisse MacIntosh
  • All students are given an emergency 24-hour, 7 days a week phone number that will be answered by one of our staff
  • Before the student leaves home, he or she will be given their accommodation details. If  homestay accommodation has been chosen, he or she will receive the address and contact details, and the profile of the host and their location
  • Our class teachers will report to our under 18 welfare officer if any under 18 student is absent from their class. The welfare officer will then contact the under 18 student at his or her accommodation to check on their wellbeing

Hello to my teacher and all the staff - it was great, and I really recomend the school.
