Business English (10 hrs/wk)

Learning Business English is much more than simply learning some industry-specific vocabulary, it is about learning transferable skills, adapting to new working environments, working across language and cultural barriers. This part-time course offers students who are intending to work in the UK or abroad the language and communications skills required to achieve success in their current and future professional life.

What will I study?

The course focuses on transferable communication skills which are relevant to learners from a range of business backgrounds such as management, finance, manufacturing, sales and marketing, tourism and hospitality, etc. The core skills areas are meetings, negotiations, presentations, telephoning, report writing and email. The course also covers a range of topics appropriate to international business such as cross-cultural relations, human resources, globalisation, IT, web2.0, developing markets, recession & growth, etc. Learning objectives include:

  • Participate in or lead efficient meeting and negotiations
  • Deliver winning presentations
  • Write short, effective emails
  • Compile persuasive reports
  • Communicate clearly by telephone
  • Use the internet for research and marketing
  • Build working relationships and manage people in a multi-cultural environment

What materials will I use?

We use only the latest Textbooks and Audio from major ELT publishers and supplement these with Video, DVD, CD-ROMs, online resources, and authentic materials. Our experienced teachers also create their own materials for classes depending on the students' interests.

Availability

Please note this course is only open to students of an intermediate level or above. Students must be 18 years old and should have business experience. Also, you must study for a 4 week period, e.g. 4, 8, 12, 16 weeks. Students must be 18 years old.
