
If you are planning to study at a college or university you will be required to demonstrate your English language ability prior to acceptance. The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) qualification is the recognised standard used by academic institutions in the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand and is also accepted in the USA and Canada. The test covers Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. There are two versions: Academic and General English, with the Academic version being required for entry to college and university courses. As a guide, entry to a university course requires an IELTS score of 6.0 - 7.0 and college courses require IELTS 5.0. See the IELTS website for more information.
This is a part-time course that covers on the language skills and exam techniques to prepare students for the IELTS exam. Each week you will attend five morning lessons from Monday to Friday , totalling 15 hours per week. The lessons focus on the four skills you will be tested on in the exam (listening, speaking, reading & writing) and incorporates special examination techniques. You will also be expected to complete homework tasks and study outside the class.
We offer IELTS courses at 2 levels. IELTS Foundation is aimed at learners with a pre-intermediate/ low intermediate level of English. The standard IELTS preparation course is for learners of good intermediate level and above. The cost for each option is the same.
The IELTS examination can be taken all over the world. In Scotland, it can be taken at Glasgow University or Basil Paterson college. The exam takes place several times a month but you must apply at least six-weeks before the test date. You must study for a 4 week period, e.g. 4, 8, 12, 16 weeks. Students must be 18 years old.
We use only the latest course books and audio from major ELT publishers and supplement these with DVD, online resources, authentic materials and past test papers. Our experienced teachers also create their own materials for classes depending on the students' interests and needs. The materials cost is £25 per book used which is payable at the time of booking for all new students. For continuing students this fee has to be paid directly to the school office.
