TKT Preparation Course
This course prepares overseas English language teachers for the Cambridge Teacher Knowledge Test (TKT). It aims to develop the basic knowledge of language and teaching skills required to teach English as a foreign language. The course is designed as an introductory teacher development course for teachers with little or no experience of teaching English language.
The course totals 90 hours, including 2 weeks (45 hours) of face-to-face instruction.
Candidates will learn about key concepts and terms of English language teaching, current teaching theories and approaches, useful teaching and learning resources, and will be provided with teaching materials and activities that explore the concepts and approaches presented.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will:
- Describe the features of language skills (listening, reading, writing & speaking)
- Describe the features of language systems (grammar, lexis, pronunciation, functions)
- Understand different learner styles and motivation
- Understand the differences between L1 and L2 learning
- Identify suitable learning aims
- Plan effective learning activities
- Plan sequences of lessons
- Evaluate course books and supplementary materials
- Utilise a variety of teaching aids
- Give simple and effective instructions
- Present materials and activities in an engaging way
- Assess learners’ progress and provide appropriate feedback
- Follow a variety of teaching approaches
- Manage learners’ interaction
- Create a learner-centred classroom
This course is suitable for teachers of CEFR B1 level and above.
This group course requires a minimum of 6 candidates.
The total course fee is £850. This includes accommodation in a host family on a half board basis. Other optional services are offered. Contact the school for details and costs.
